Can be original book on the History of Spain in the 30s? This work is original of several elements: A) The sources used, with information coming from local historical and other national archives little used so far. The authors have used documentation but little known institutions essential to the daily life of the Republic, as the records of the agrarian unions or the Comisión de Policía Rural (proceedings of these commissions have not been analyzed so far in other research); B) Documentation of courts martial, guarded in the Archivo General e Histórico de Defensa.

The result is a work that flees from academicism but maintains scientific rigor and, while it seeks to provide a streamlined narrative that can be useful for both the residents of Santa Marta (Badajoz, Extremadura, SW Spain) and to be incorporated into historiography on the agrarian question and its relationship with the General Franco regime.
